NL East Trade Off

As the free agent period is getting close to an end, the Braves and Mets have made a trade.
Chris Johnson of the Braves was asking for a trade earlier this week because of lack of playing time. Well instead of trading him, the Braves traded two players he was platooning with at 1st and 3rd. The Braves sent 3B Juan Uribe and Utility player Kelly Johnson to the Mets for Jon Gant and Rob Whalen, both minor league pitchers.
The Mets are now definitely buyers to see if they can make the playoffs for the first time since 2006. They are 49-47 as of today but are ranked dead last in the NL in runs, batting average, hits, and runs batted in. The Braves are 45-50, 5 games under .500.
Uribe has hit .285 so far this season with the Braves and Dodgers. He also has hit 7 homeruns with 17 runs batted in. He is making 6.5 million this season and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2015 season. He was the second oldest on the Braves team at 36 before the trade.
Johnson is hitting .275, 9 home runs and has 34 RBIs. His .275 batting average is his best since 2010. He is 33 this year and was making 1.5 million. Like Uribe he will be a free agent at the end of the season.
Gant, is 22 and has pitched in A and AA this season. He has a 6-5 record with a 3.72 ERA in 17 games.
Whalen, 4-5, has a 3.36 ERA with the St. Lucie Mets. He has started 14 games and has appeared in one more.
With this trade the Mets get the bats they need to make a post-season push and the Braves keep loading up on minor league pitchers.
