1 vs 2: Who will Remain Undefeated? 

  

For the 56th time in Women’s College Basketball, the number 1 and number 2 teams will meet up. This time it will feature 1 UCONN at 2 South Carolina. 

With this match up being the 28th time both number 1 and number 2 is undefeated, we also seen this matchup last season. But, it was SC at number 1 and undefeated, playing at number 2 UCONN, who had lost to Stanford earlier in the season. UCONN took the match up with a 87-62 win that flipped them up to #1. 

UCONN is now on a 59 game winning streak, which is the longest in Division 1 basketball. They played ECU 92-46, on February 6. Which puts them at 22-0, awaiting their trip to Columbia, SC. The Huskies averages 90 points per game while only allowing 48.6. They are 6-0 against ranked opponents this season. The 2-Time National Player of the Year, Breanna Stewart will be leading the Huskies as their Senior Forward. The Huskies are also the 3x defending National Champions. 

On the SC side, the Lady Gamecocks have a 44 game home winning streak. Their last home loss was on February 10, 2013. Their last loss up to date, was in their Final Four loss to Notre Dame. The Lady Gamecocks leads the nation in attendance at an average of 14,557. This season they are 9-0 versus ranked teams while averaging 75.8 ppg and only allowing 56.5. They are lead by senior guard Tiffany Mitchell, the two-time reigning SEC Player of the Year, sophomore, forward A’ja Wilson who averages 16.4 ppg and 3.1 blocks, and sophomore center Alaina Coates who is a 69.8% shooter. SC last faced 16th ranked Kentucky on Thursday, February 4 and won 78-68. 

After Monday, February 8 we will have only 1 undefeated team left in D1 basketball. Will it be number 1 or number 2? UCONN or SC?
