New Orleans Pelicans guard Bryce Dejean-Jones has passed away. He died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was 23.
Orginally from California, he was in Dallas, TX at the time of the accident.
“Bryce overcame a lot of obstacles to get to this point in his career,” said his agent, Scott Nichols. “He was a joy to be around, a talent just turning the corner in his career.”(ESPN)
Dejean-Jones had signed a three-year contract in February. He had previously joined the team on consecutive 10-day contracts. He eventually started 11 games, playing in 14 total. Then he broke his wrist which required surgery that ultimately had him missing the rest of the season.
Before his injury, he averaged 5.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists in an average of 19.9 minutes.
Before going undrafted in 2015, Dejean-Jones played college ball at USC, UNLV and Iowa State.
