Veteran outfielder Carl Crawford was designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Dodgers. But he still has $35 million remaining on a contract. His contract runs through 2017.
The Dodgers are responsible for the remainder of the guaranteed deal.
Because of Trayce Thompson, Crawford had received little playing. This is also including the fact Puig has been injured.
Carl Crawford is batting .185 in 81 at-bats with the Dodgers this season.
In 320 games with the Dodgers he has batted.278 with 18 home runs and 99 RBIs.
Crawford his first nine seasons he hit 104 home runs with 592 RBIs, a .296 batting average and a .444 slugging percentage. But the next six seasons he has only hit 32 home runs with 174 RBIs, a .271 batting average and a .407 slugging percentage.
To replace Crawford on the roster, the Dodgers recalled Austin Barnes from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
