Swin Cash is planning to retire after the 2016 season. She is currently playing for the New York Liberty.
She made the announcement in The Players’ Tribune.
This season she is averaging 5.8 points and 3.3 rebounds. It is her 15th WNBA season.
Over her career she is now ranked in the top 15 in points scored, rebounds and assists as well as games played in WNBA history. She also has 3 WNBA titles along with 2 Olympic Gold medals. Her WNBA titles came with Detroit in ‘03 and ‘06 then with Seattle in ‘10.
In college, she won 2 NCAA championships with UCONN. She was also an All-American in her college career. In their 2002 championship she won NCAA Tournament MOP.
She was the number 2 overall pick in the 2002 draft by the Detroit Shock. This has lead her to become a 4x All-Star and a 2x WNBA All-Star MVP. Also, she has became a 4x NBA Shooting Stars champion.
“Basketball has allowed me to live a life that I am fiercely proud of,” Cash wrote in The Players’ Tribune.
In 2015, Cash married her longtime boyfriend Steve Canal.
The Liberty are 4-3 this season and in second place in the Eastern Conference.
