Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe has passed away. He was 88.
A native of Floral, Saskatchewan, Howe is the NHL record holder for most games and seasons played. He played in 1,767 games over 26 seasons. He scored 801 goals in his career which ranked second.
While playing for Detroit, the Hall of Famer played on four Stanley Cup championship teams before he retired at the age of 52.
In 2009, his wife passed away from a similar disease to dementia. However, before her death Howe had been battling dementia himself. Memory loss came in the early stages for him.
In 2014, he then suffered two strokes before undergoing a stem-cell clinical trial. After the trial his health improved some.
