Leukemia will be sidelining Craig Sager from this year’s Rio Olympics.
The TNT broadcaster is preparing for a third bone marrow transplant. NBC announced today that he will have to remain in the U.S.. A third transplant is something that is not done often.
Sager received the Jimmy V Perseverance Award at the ESPYs this year. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 and went into remission in 2015 but the cancer returned in April of this year. He was given a 3-6 month diagnosis that he vowed would not stopped him and he hasn’t.
Known for his eye-catching suits, Sager has been apart of the Turner Broadcasting crew for 30 plus years. This season for game 6 of the NBA Finals on ESPN on ABC, he worked his first NBA finals game of his career.
We wish him the best of luck and as much as we wish to see him working the Olympics, he will always be in our hearts.
